About us
Our names are Connor, Payton, Keenan, Dustin, and Emily. We are 10th grade students in Minnesota, studying historically important inventions from the years 1865-1915. We believe that without these inventions, life today would have been different.
The typewriter made it easier to write paper, letters, books, etc. The typewriter started many new inventions such as the keyboard. To us this is very important, because we use them in every day to day life. If the typewriter was never invented then we probably would not be making this blog. It has made writing, editing, and publishing an easy task for anybody that knows how to read and write. The typewrite took a while to perfect going fromprototype to prototype and finally settling on the known configuration that wasused up until a little while ago.
The light bulb was invented to create a better way to lighthouses and other spaces. The tool used at the time was an oil lamp or candle. The candle didn't give off much light at all and the oil lamp was far more expensive which made it nearly impractical. Another problem with both the candle and the oil lamp is that they cause countless fires that killed many people which can be avoided with the invention of the light bulb. After trying many different types of filaments, Thomas Edison decided to use wool. This at the time was equivalent to carbon wire used today. He found that it burned long and bright. He had solved the problem of lighting and his method of lighting is still being used today. Without his invention the United States would not be as well off as it is today.
The telephone was made to create a faster way to communicate from place to place in a short amount of time. It was not an easy ask to do and was helped by accidental discoveries that lead to the completion of the project in the end. Alexander Graham Bell was working with telegraph wires and trying to see if he could transmit more than one signal at the same time across one wire. He was then side tract with his love for acoustics and began his work oncreating what we know as the telephone. He started with simple tones being transmitted through wire and began to expand from their project from there. One day Alexander was listening to his partner work and he heard him prick a tone through the wire that was the frequency of voice. Now they finally had whatthey needed and finished their project in the year of 1867. Without the invention of the telephone we would not have or cell phones today and possiblymany things that we use every day would not exist because there wasn't theneeded communication at the time to create the idea. All in all the invention of the telephone was a giant leap toward where we are today.
The Bessemer process made steel. Steel is used for many everyday life necessities. This allowed us to build skyscrapers, which made much more space for more skyscrapers. The skyscrapers were home to big businesses which made lots of money. Another thing that the skyscapers aloowed for is the espansion of populationwithout taking up alot os space. Forthe first time, people couldbuild veritically instead of out. This was a key thing that allows for great populations today in our large cities in such small of a space.
After doing this poject we all think that all of these inventions were crucial to what the United states is today. We enjoyed doing this project and lerned alot. We all hope that you enjoyed our website. ;)
