Sir Henry Bessemer
Henry Bessemer was born in England on January 19th 1813. He was born into a wealthy family to start out with. His father was and inventor also that had made his wealth by making new processes to make gold chains and improving the lenses of the optimal microscope. Henery was in an estate in which he had the luxary of having many new and high tech things at the time to study and improve. Henry created six steam powered engines to create bronze powder which allowed him to aquire his first fourtune. After making his millions, he started on the process of finding a new way to make steel quick and cheap.
Bessemer process
Henry Bessemer was set on working to find a cheap way to produce steel to use for ordanance productions. The process was fairly easy and made a product stronger than conventional steel. What happend was iron was melted down into liquid and cold, fast air was blown through it, removing all of the impuritites in the molten iron. The result was a new kind of steel.
Cause and effect
The invention of the fastest way to make seel was just as important as theinvention of the lightbulb. It allowed for verticle growth in all cities and stronger protection from storms along the coastline and tornados inland. Without the invention of steel we would not have been able to expand as a population as efficiantly as we did. And today there would be no room left due tothe lack of sky scrapers. All in all the bessemer process was very importatn in making the United Stateswhat they are today.
