Thomas Edison
Thoms Edison was born on Feb. 11, 1847 to a middle class income family that lived in Milan, Ohio. As a child he was very excited and smart. But with his intelligence came a sense of craziness. As a little boy he asked alot of questions all of the time during school and finally his teacher had had enough. She sent him home one day and told him not to come back again. Many people thought that he had a severe case of ADHD ( Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). His parents would not drug him to control the supposed ADHD problem and let him prosper. He began to mature and led a very important life.
Thomas edison's First Invention
This was Edison's first invention that he created in Menlo Park, Ohio. What Edison had created was the first Phonograph. He experimented with having the machine prick dots into a tin cylinder that allowed notes to be played. What he was left with was the famous childhood song of Mary had a Little Lamb. This invention was very important but was dwarfed by what was to come.
The first production light bulb
After Thomas Edison had invented the phonograph he started work on improving what ws known as a light bulb at his time. The current lightbulb had been large, dim, and it didn't last long. Edison bought the patent to the light bulb making it his own and began his project. He began by making it smaller and lighter. After that was done, he started work on improving the light of the bulb and duration of brightness. Edison tryed thousands of different things from plant to metals to clothes and fabrics. After trying thousands of different materials he was about to give up when he tryed one last thing. What he used was a scorched cotton thread. This is the equivalent of the carbon wires used today. He then patentedhis model andbegan to sell it to the community commercialy. By doing this he became a household name all over the world.
cause and effect
The light bulb was a very important invention that changed the workplace of every working person in the nation. Now companies could work twenty four hours a day without stop and could light up thir businesses at night to prevent theft. They also were the precurser to the LED wich is used in all of our televisions and many other electronic devices. Without the light bulb America would not have been able to go through the Industial Revolution as it did and we would be a very different country.
