Alexander Graham Bell
Alexander Gram Bell was born in the town of Edinburg, Scotland on March 3, 1847. Bell was inventing things since he was the age of twelve when he made a corn dehusker for his family farm. He was allowed to work in a workshop that his dad owned to invent new things. His interest in acoustics was sparked by the fact that his mother was sadly going deaf. She started to lose her hearing when Alexander was the age of twelve. His father tought him at home until he was eleven. Then he and his brothers were enrolled at Royal High School in Edinburg Scotland. After completing four terms there he went to spend time with his gradfather and learned how to speak and teach with a purpose. At the age of sixteen he bacame a teacher at Weston House Academy in Scotland.
The telephone
Alexander had been working on making telegraph wire capable of carrying multiple transmisions across it at the same time. They had been making some progess when Alexander Graham Bell and his partner Thomas Wattson on the concept when they disovered that you could hear sounds transmitted through the telegraph wire that sounded like a persons voice. This caused them to completely change their approach and start work on the telephone. It took them a while to find the correct way to transmit voice through the phone. One day they were experimenting and Thomas Wattson pricked a small wire and Bell heard it resonating on the other end of the device. They had done it, and then began to perfect their invention and patent it. Some companies wanted to buy the patent for up to 25 million dollars. Wattson and Bell kept their patent and became millionairs.
Cause and effect
The telephone was invented to allow for communication across large distances in a small amount of time. It was made to replace the letter and the telegraph. It eventually did replace the telegraph but letters are still in full use today with no signs of stopping. Alexander Graham bell and his partner changed America for the better and without the telephone we would not be the same as a nation.
